The WILSON LINES - back in the early '70's, I lived in a Jersey City basement apartment right next to a giant steam boiler. There were 2 other guys that were friends and we managed this 7 story old building in exchange for free rent & utilities while we worked and attended college. I walked all over Jersey City, I especially enjoyed the decaying dock and riverfront area. Of course I made photographs before the area was cleared for urban renewal. Many Cruise Lines had their ports here in the early 20th century. This photo was made on TRI-X with a 35mm Pentax camera with the 50mm kit lens. I wish we could go back in time.

I just I just read this quote of Diane Arbus again. I had seen it before, but with the passage of time, it has more relevance to me. "The thing that's important is to know that you never know. You're always sort of feeling your way." So many of the photographs I see from others and make myself are captured as a result of making other photographs and not the intended or anticipated center of interest.
